Our Church Address:
Epworth United Methodist Church
5253 N. Kenmore Avenue
Chicago, IL 60640
Rev. Juyeon Jeon, Pastor
You may recognize us by our stony outer exterior, Richardsonian Romanesque church building in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago; however, the architecture is just one of the many unique characters of our church. We care for the homeless. The gymnasium of Epworth United Methodist Church provides shelter for 65 homeless men, 365 days a year.
For over twenty-four years, Epworth has hosted the overnight shelter as a vital part of our outreach to the Edgewater and Andersonville neighborhoods. We are pleased to partner with Cornerstone Community Outreach in this work since 2009.
Our church is recognized as a mission church, from hosting mission groups across the country seeking to do service work in the Chicago metropolitan area, to providing space for Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and raising money to end hunger and poverty. We are helping to achieve abundant life for all, found in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Following our Wesleyan heritage, we seek to meet the needs of marginalized communities through our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. We acknowledge that to end systemic problems on earth requires participating in justice work. We understand the purifying work of God’s grace to refine our lives, relationships, and world into a perfect state of holiness. The people of Epworth UMC are privileged to be part of this process, and to bring about the Kingdom of peace and justice here on earth. We are committed to spreading the unconditional and inclusive love of Jesus Christ.
Our Mission Statement: Epworth UMC is a family of followers of Jesus Christ, committed to love and justice for all God’s children.
We are a Reconciling Congregation: Epworth United Methodist Church participates in the Reconciling Ministries Network. All are welcome here! Whatever gender, race, economic status, sexual orientation, condition of ableness, etc., we welcome you as a beloved child of God!
